In June, Emily and Maybelline celebrated their love in a vibrant and heartfelt backyard wedding that epitomized warmth and individuality. Hosted in Columbia Falls, a tiny town in Northwest Montana, this intimate celebration featured personal touches, meaningful moments, and a fun atmosphere that left everyone smiling ear-to-ear. As their wedding officiant, I was delighted to work closely with the couple to devise a ceremony that incorporated their faith, values, family and friends in meaningful ways. From live musicians and crystals, to canine companions and an incorporated license signing, the whole event was created to reflect their love for each other, and their chosen community.

Love and Connection

Emily, a nurse with a military background, and Maybelline, a music enthusiast, first crossed paths at a bar in Missoula. Their shared passion for life’s adventures and deep respect for each other’s journeys led them to this memorable day surrounded by loved ones. I loved that they chose to get ready together and entered the ceremony space hand in hand after their wedding party set the stage.

A Unique Setting

The couple chose their family backyard as their wedding venue, bringing a sense of nostalgia and intimacy to the celebration. Maybelline’s father handcrafted the altar, a stunning focal point for the ceremony that showcased both love and craftsmanship. The warm June weather added a summery glow in the midst of the surprising heat at 4 PM.

Memorable Details

This wedding was full of delightful personal touches that reflected Emily and Maybelline’s personalities. Decor elements included bees, bee skeps, and hexagons—a nod to their shared admiration for these natural wonders. The pastel color palette of green, light blue, and yellow was complemented by the brides’ white and cream dresses, adding to the day’s radiant and cohesive aesthetic. The wedding party’s attire added a sweet array of colors to the day and Waffles, their charming ring-bearing dog, along with two other canine friends, brought extra joy to the ceremony. Watching Waffles make their way down the aisle was a highlight for all in attendance.
